‘Today I was listening to a conversation between 3 stylish women who sat a few meters from my desk. It went like this: I used to be a size 38, but now I am rather a 40 or 42, but I still buy 38 and pretend that’s it’s fits. The other women: I have always this problem with trousers that I have such small legs. As a result, the sizes I should buy are always to big on my legs. So, I buy a size smaller, buts now the trousers are pretty uncomfortable in my waist… The third woman added: I think the sizes has changed over the years; my mother was wearing a size 38 when she was younger, but I really can’t fit her garments from that time.
It’s so interesting because it shows the complicated relation we have with standard sizes. I really wanted to say to these women (but I didn’t): forget about standard sizes! They don’t help you, instead they only make you feel despaired. So instead I say it here: standard sizes are crap!
This conversation is exactly the reason why we do size free fashion. We want to help women to become more confident about their own size. It’s not your size which is wrong, it’s the fashion industry!
Custom made essentials
At Studio Heijne, we are disrupting the fashion industry. We are questioning the way how products are produced: in standard sizes and through mass production.
We are taking the next step: The release of our collection `Custom made essentials` with must-have garments which are the base in most wardrobes. With this collection we are also taking the next step in the sizing challenge. We know that trousers are the biggest challenge when it comes to finding a good fit. That’s why we developed the best basic trousers every woman needs in her wardrobe. I am talking about 2 different types. To be more specific we soon are launching jeans and the perfect black trouser. The best thing is that you will be able to adjust the fit to your personal length and size!
What we are doing is groundbreaking! No other brand is offering a complete customizable, modern wardrobe for woman.
So, forget about bad fitting jeans and browsing through plenty of stores in search for the best fitting pair. And forget about ordering 2 or 3 sizes, to be able to maybe get one right. And most of all forget about returning another pair of trousers because they didn’t fit!
3 More weeks to online launch!

This week we introduce linen water, what is it and what to do with this spray?
What is linen water?
Linen water is a household product that’s fantastic for creating and maintaining fresh-smelling laundered clothes and bed sheets. Traditionally it’s used while ironing your bed linen. It’s so easy to use – simply spray a little over the garment while you are ironing it and let the subtle fragrances infuse the material.
Imagine yourself climbing in your freshly made bed and lounging in sweet -smelling comfort as the freshness of your linen circles in the room.
Nowadays the spray is also used to freshen up your garments or as room spray. Scroll down to see more examples of how to use linen spray.
A brief history
Traditionally prepared with lavender, linen oil has long been used in the south of France where lavender is in plentiful supply. It is believed that lavender has been used to scent clothes and bed sheets since as early as the 17th century. Unsurprisingly, it was also believed to have healing powers and also to ward off evil spirits. Since then, households across the world have adopted the use of linen water in its many different flavors as a fantastic way of keeping clothes smelling sweet.
What is linen spray made of?
Our linen water from Gröna Gredelina is made of distilled water, plant based ecological perfume oil and alcohol. The spray is locally produced in Stockholm.
Make your own
Making linen water at home is quite simple. Fill a 450 ml bottle with a misting nozzle nearly full with distilled water. Then add two or three drops of an essential oil of your choice. Lavender or verbena are widely-used scents and can be subtler than fruits or spices. Tightly close the bottle and shake the solution. Mist liberally over freshly-laundered sheets, duvet covers and/or pillowcases.
How to use linen spray
Linen water is available in a wide range of fragrances such as cotton, cashmere , wood, lavender and lemon so you’re bound to find the aroma that you’ve been looking for. It’ll arrive in a cute spray bottle with a misting nozzle which evenly sprays the liquid over the item of your preference.
Here are some of the ways you can use the spray:
Spray on soft furnishings like the lounge, curtains, carpets, rugs and bedding to freshen between washes.
Use as an ironing aide for fresh smelling clothes..
Spray clothes to keep fresh between washes.
Use as an air freshener.
Spray in the car.
Freshen up towels and sheets that have been tucked away in storage for a while.
No house is complete without linen water in the cupboards, so stock up and get misting!
Read about why we are introducing custom made jeans and trousers (scroll down for info about the launch) It all starts in the fitting room…
The frustation with fitting rooms.
I stand in the cold lights of a dressing room with no less than 7 pair of jeans with me. The goal is to find those perfect ones, that hugs my behind and makes me love my own legs. Or at least find a pair of jeans that makes me feel like a power woman! But the mirror on the wall is no longer my friend. I leave the dressing room feeling sweaty from trying on every single one of the jeans. Slightly frustrated and with no new jeans to bring home with me.
There are some places that are nice and there are other places that are not so fun. And then there are fitting rooms. Like bad magic they turn my excitement for getting a new garment into pure frustration. The trouble is not only the long queues, the unflattering light or the curtains that does not close properly. The biggest issue is the absurdity that all women’s bodies should be categorized into a handful of different sizes. Sizes that are not based on the average woman’s body but on ideals. The fact is that most bodies are too short, too tall, too curvy or too thin to match the ready-made-garment sizes.
“Nothing fits my body”.
The result is either that you end up not feeling good about your body. Or paying for garments that don’t really fit. It’s no wonder that you might leave the store with the feeling that “nothing fits my body”.
Does this feel way to familiar? As a fashion scientist and with a big passion for garment making I spend a lot of time thinking of fashion, garments and how they effect our lives. That’s why I decided to meet up with Wendy, founder of Studio Heijne. I ended up working at Studio Heijne. Custom made garments just made sense from both a sustainable and personal perspective on fashion. I want to wear garments that make me look both look and feel good.
“46% of the 2000 women that were asked, struggle with size and fit issues when looking for garments.”
A survey in the US was conducted in 2017 and revealed that46% of the 2000 women that where asked, struggle with size and fit issues when looking for garments. It is hard, especially when ordering garments online to get the right size on a garment and even harder to get the right fit. Therefore I believe in Studio Heijne’s custom made garments based on measurements.
Why standard sizes are a mess.
Your body’s shape and measurements may change over the years and also the sizes in store change, the measurement of a size 36 today is much bigger than a size 36 in the 1970s. On top of that there is the struggle that a size “36” in one store may in measurement be a “38” in another store. Each brand decide for themselves what measurements that goes for each size. Instead of trying to keep up with the different sizes we believe that garments based on measurements is the way to go.
Trousers are the biggest fit challenge
Last autumn Studio Heijne did a customer survey asking our customers what garment with good fit they struggle to find in stores and the answer was clear – trousers. 77 % of all customers stated that trousers is the garment they struggle the most with. Therefore we have spent this summer researching sustainable materials. We looked into whats makes a perfect pair of custom made jeans and tailored trousers. We also spend many hours looking for sustainable qualities for both denim and tailored trousers. Our main focus has been to find a perfect fit. A fit that is flattering for the female body and that make women of all shapes feel like that Heijne trousers are their very favorite pair of trousers in their closet.
Custom made jeans and trousers by Heijne
Today, we can reveal that the perfect trousers are on the way. Of course you will be able to get our trousers and jeans custom made to fit your own measurements and altered to the length you prefer. We are super excited that these new classics will soon be ready!
Stay tuned to be the first to get an invitation to the launch!
We proudly present the new scarf collection with 6 new original designs. From small bandana scarves to large wrap-around-your-coat scarves. The new silk scarves are designed with love by Wendy Heijne. The inspiration for the collection comes partly from artist Hilma AF Klint and her art. Furthermore the scarves are a personal expression by the designer on what feels “right at the moment.” Wendy: “I have always had a love for art deco, geometric art as well as organic shapes. By designing prints I can combine these interests with a personal expression. I hope that the scarves will be valued like fine jewelry – cherished for years, always worn again in new combinations and styles.”
How to tie a scarf you might wonder? Some scarves are easier to style than others. If you have a large scarf for example, you can just throw your scarf around your neck and you look instantly fabulous. Further more the smaller scarves can be tied around your handbag or wrist. You can even tie the silk scarves around your neck or use them to create a hair accessory. For you seeking for inspiration to tie a scarf, we have made a complete scarf guide with all kind of tips. We got a lot of questions about how to remove stains on silk garments. That’s why in this blog we will focus on how to remove stains. We’ve been trying and testing out stain remover products and we will share what we’ve found works best. Furthermore, below you find a guide for how to treat stain on silk garments.
Test: Which stain remover to use?
To remove stains there are natural remedies and chemical based products. They come as bar or liquid soaps, as well as sticks and sprays. We’ve tested a few products to see what works best for silk garments and different types of stains such as ketchup, fat and etc. We used organic bar soaps and chemical based products available in the supermarket. It’s fair to say that some of them worked really well. Some didn’t succeed to remove the stains. First see the product we use. Then, look at the result in the table below, or scroll down to read which remedy works best for different stains.
The products we tested
As a sustainable company we wanted to test organic options and hoped for their success. We tested different organic soaps such as Galltvål (bile soap bar), Wie Gallseife (bile soap bar) and Sodasan Fläck Bort Galltvål (liquid bile soap). All organic and natural sopas made to remove stains as fat, oil, sauce, grass, blood, chocolate etc.
Additionally we tested Vanish, a chemical products, which has a good reputation, but is actually not meant to be used on silk (says on the package). We tried it anyway, after we noticed that the other products don’t work as well as we hoped. We tested the spray on many different garments made of different types of silk. But also, we tested it on different types on stains such as ketchup, fat and etc. We are very positively surprised by the results of using Vanish on silk! See our test results in the table below.

Results
The winner in this test is very clear: it’s definitely Vanish.
Truth to be told, the organic bar soaps didn’t helped in removing the stains. None of them did make the stains disappear. On the contrary, in some cases it even created a color difference (see photo below). Unfortunately, even though the organic soaps are natural solution they didn’t save the garment.
The Vanish spray however, removed all the stains on the silk garments. Moreover it didn’t damage the silk fabric. We haven’t seen any discouloring on the fabrics either. We recommend Vanish to use, even for your silk garments. It might not be all natural, but it’s more sustainable to actually remove the stain and save the garment. So we will definitely recommend using this spray.

How to remove stains from silk fabrics
Our best tip is to use Vanish in combination with hand wash. In general the hand treatment has been better for spots removing, because you can really concentrate on working with the spots. Below you’ll find a step by step guide for an easy way for how to treat stains on silk. The same method applies regardless the stains or remedy.
The stain treatment guide
1. Act fast
Try to act as fast as possible if you spot it immediately.
2. Prepare
Vanish says you should apply on a dry surface. Follow that advice and spray first on the dry surface. Make the fabric wet a few minutes after spraying instead.
If you use a soap bar you dampen the soap in cool water and then apply it on the stained spot. If the stain is dry feel free to soak the garment in lukewarm water before you use the stain remover.
3. Work the stain
Here the stain removing starts. Rub the fabric with the stain gently to another part of the fabric. It’s always the best the rub fabric to a fabric, don’t use anything else to rub it against. Rub making circular motions with the fabrics. Though, be gentle and don’t agitate the fabric. Take a look if the stain completely disappeared. If not, treat it again.
4. Wash
Afterwards, you can either hand-wash or machine wash the silk garments. We recommend hand wash, because then you can concentrate on the stain and just wet the rest of the garment (if it’s not dirty). Always use a mild detergent for delicate garments.
If you need to refresh the whole garment use machine washing . Select the delicate cycle – 30 degrees for about 30 min.
5. Check the result
Sometimes, the first try won’t be 100% successful. But, that just means that you should try again. Next time, use a bit more Vanish, rub a bit harder and work a bit harder with the stains. They will dissapear or at least get less visible. It’s worth a try, because if you don’t, you probably won’t wear the garment again. And that would be a pity!

What’s the best way to hand wash silk. And what is the best detergent? Or can you machine wash silk? This story dives specifically into how to wash silk garments, scarves and other silk items.
Earlier we have published a general guide on care advice for silk. You can read the general guide here.

Different ways to wash silk
Silk is amazing material for every season. However, usually we worry about how will we take care of it. After all, silk is delicate and sensitive. Nevertheless, if you choose the right detergent, the right washing machine program or good dry cleaning service it’s quite easy. Though, there are few things you have to keep in mind. Read though this blog and you’ll be good to go. To begin, there are three different ways of washing silk:
Hand wash – the safest way
Machine Wash – fast, easy and safe
Dry Clean – for very delicate items
The different types of silk
But first, you have to know that there are many different types of silk. However, the most commonly used for everyday clothes are:
Silk Crepe de Chine
Wild silk or silk Habotai
Silk Satin
There are other silk fabrics, such as Chiffon, Organza, Dupion, Shantung, Duchess and etc. Anyhow, they are usually intended for gown and bridal-wear. And these need to go to the dry cleaner.
Best way to hand wash silk
Hand washing is always the best way for washing silk. It’s also the safest way. All you have to do is prepare first and then follow the step by step guide.
Before you start:
Pre-treat if there are any stains. (Coming soon: a blog on stains and spots)
Turn the item/s inside out.
Wash with the same or similar colors.
A step by step guide:
Fill a large bowl or the sink with lukewarm (around 30 degrees) water.
Put the silk items inside and make sure they submerge.
Add a recommended dose of detergent for delicates.
We recommend the Organic delicate detergent by Gröna Gredelina and Galltvål. Both of these products will keep your clothes fresh and clean while making sure they’re not harming the environment.
Stir the water using your hand to mix the detergent and soak the garment for few minutes.
Use your hands to gently move the silk item up and down in the water.
Rinse the silk item in fresh cool water.
Use a towel to absorb the excess water.
Hang the garment to dry out away from direct sunlight.
How to machine washing silk
You might be surprised to hear that you can wash silk in washing machine. The most suitable program for washing machine silk is the delicate. Sometimes it can be even called hand wash. Usually it takes 20-30 minutes. Furthermore, the temperature is about 30 degrees. This program mimics hand washing, so the machine makes very gentle spins. Moreover, what you can do protect the silk for machine washing is to use a mesh bag. Just to make sure it won’t get damaged. Follow the guide below for washing silk items in washing machine.
To prepare:
Check the fabric care label. Some silk items may bleed and lose color. Or they’re embroidered and are too delicate and may be damaged.
Pre-treat any stains.
Turn the item/s inside out.
Please do not mix different colors together.
A step by step guide:
Load the machine with the silks. Always leave some space. Be careful, don’t overload it.
Add a detergent for delicates.
Start the delicate cycle. All the machines have one these days.
Use a towel to absorb the excess water. Take the silks out as soon as the program ends. Never let them soak.
Hang the garment or lay it flat. Keep it away from direct sunlight.
What’s the best way to dry clean silk?
Let’s demystify what really happens at the dry cleaners. Actually, it’s very simple. Dry cleaning is called dry, because different liquid is used instead of water. This liquid, also known as solvent, doesn’t penetrate in the fibers the same way as water. That’s how the fabric keeps it’s quality. However, usually the liquid is chemical based and it’s not healthy or environmentally friendly. On the other hand, today there are also more sustainable options. Such as, wet cleaning, liquid carbon dioxide cleaning, silicon based solvent cleaning. At Studio Heijne we collaborate with environment friendly dry cleaner: Elias Skräddari.
Nevertheless, the best way to dry clean silk is written below:
Kindly ask the dry cleaning service for greener options.
Please point out if there are any stains, what caused it and how long it has been there.
Don’t forget to mention upfront if you have concerns for delicate details such as beads, embroidery or buttons for example.
Finally, after the silk items are dry we recommend to iron or steam them.

The videos show you how to take your body measurements correctly. The video guide is language accompanied and we recommend turning on the volume.
Let´s start taking your measurements. You need a measurement tape and 5 minutes of your time. Put yourself in front of a mirror, this can help. Wear tight clothes or only underwear for the best result.
To measure your chest, position and pull the tape measure around your body where your chest is as broadest (under your armpits, around your back and back to the front) to get the right measure.
Fold the measurement tape around your natural waist, where it is as smallest, a few cm above your belly bottom. Keep it parallel to the floor. Avoid holding your breath or pulling your stomach.
TIP: If you are unsure, measure 21 cm straight down from the chest. There is your most defined waist according to our measurement system.
Pull the tape around the widest part of your hips. Adjust the tape measure slightly up and down to ensure that it is the widest part. Look in the mirror to assure you keep the tape straight.
Measure from top of shoulder to desired length.
For dresses measure first to your hips, then bend and adjust measurement tape to
get the right length. For asymmetrical dresses measure to the shortest part of the
dress.
For skirt length: Place the tape on your earlier defined waist. Hold the tape on your knee and secure the tape with one hand. Bend forward and measure to the length desired. Measure from your waist (earlier defined) to length desired. For asymmetrical skirts measure to the shortest part of the skirt.
Are you experiencing that the sleeves of your top or dress often too tight around your biceps? We recommend measuring your biceps and adjust the measurement.
Define your biceps by bowing your arm and tensing your muscles. Measure around the widest part of your upper arm.
Measure the exact sleeve length you want. Place the tape on your shoulders and measure to your elbow. Hold the tape on your elbow and let go of the upper part. Then measure the final length from your elbow to the length desired.
Measure the inside of your leg: Place the tape directly under your crotch and measure first to your knee.
Hold the tape on your knee and let go the upper part. Then measure the final length from your knees to the length desired.
Hold your leg straight and place the measuring tape tight around your thigh.
Pay attention that the measuring tape is placed on the largest part of your thigh
Hold your leg straight and place the measuring tape tight around your knee. Pay attention that the measuring tape is placed in the middle of your kneecap.
Place the measuring tape around the fullest part of your calf for the right measurement. Pay attention that the measuring tape is placed straight.
